A Smart Move by the TSA
Amidst all the controversy around the new enhanced TSA airport security guidelines with the high tech “see through” scanners and extended pat-downs, the beleaguered agency, under pressure from the Flight Attendants' union, made a wise decision when it announced that crewmembers, pilots and flight attendants would be exempt if they show an airline photo ID and are in uniform on the way to work. There are probably those out there thinking, ‘how do we know crewmembers aren’t security risks?’ Well, unbeknownst to some, before being hired all crewmembers are subject to an exhaustive background check that includes fingerprinting, an FBI background check, drug testing and other high security safeguards. Furthermore, crewmembers go through rigorous FAA-certified training to keep passengers safe from real security threats. TSA finally recognized all of this and made the right decision that improves the experience for airline workers and passengers. Now when passengers are waiting in line to get through security, they won’t have to worry about waiting longer when crewmembers cut to the front of the line. Say what you want about the new enhanced security procedures at airports, but the TSA made the smart move on this one. blog comments powered by Disqus
