Beware of Republicans Bearing "Reforms"
For the disconcerted Independent voter, on whose views the outcome of the 2010 and 2012 elections may hinge, the president's call for a bipartisan health care summit must have a pleasing ring. Those more familiar with Republicanism's love affair with corporate acquisitiveness might suggest to these hopeful Independent souls -- not to mention the president: "Be careful what you wish for." The last time the Republicans stormed the walls of health care reform they gave us Bush's Medicare Part D, a subsidy that has proven to be a bonanza for a pharmaceutical industry already marinating in profits. The administration's apparent strategy is to use the summit to smoke out the Republicans as do-nothing naysayers who have no ideas. Not true. They fondly believe in surrendering the public purse to private interests, and will do all in their power to ensure the "reforms" that are passed do all they can toward that end. blog comments powered by Disqus
